About the Scholarship
The scholarship is awarded by the Marin Community Foundation. The New Leader Scholarship is a community of scholars, mentors, and change agents committed to provide the leadership in advocating the cause of social justice. They also provide access to similarly committed leaders through a network composed of the board of directors, donors, mentors, and past award recipients. This grant is designed to provide aid to students who come from financially and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. Students will be expected to remain connected to The New Leader Scholarship Fund and awardees network to contribute to the goals of the fund. After being selected as eligible, the applicant is required to attend a mandatory interview with the scholarship committee.
How to apply for the scholarship?
- The applicant should complete the application which can be found on the New Leader Scholarship site.
- Along with the application, the applicant should also submit an essay of 700 words or less addressing the topic listed on the application.
- Official academic transcripts, two recommendation letters, and FAFSA should also be submitted.
How much the scholarship award amounts to?
The award amounts up to $8,000 yearly and is renewable for up to three additional years.
The number of awards offered varies each year.
The deadline date is set for March 10
A student should have a good grade point average.
Recipient must demonstrate financial need.
A student should enroll in an undergraduate and/or graduate program with satisfactory progress.
Students should be planning to pursue advanced education in the social sciences, human services, health-related fields or public service and be able to demonstrate a commitment to serving others.
