About the Scholarship

The North Carolina Education Lottery is run by the government of North Carolina. The NCE Lottery funds go to pay for school construction, need-based college financial aid, transportation, salaries for non-instructional support staff, and pre-kindergarten for at-risk four-year-olds. This institution also funds the North Carolina Education Lottery Scholarship (ELS).


How to apply for this scholarship?

  • Applicants must first need to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application form that is used to determine his/her family's financial position to pay for their education.

  • In addition to a completed copy of the FAFSA, an applicant is also required to submit additional forms or supplemental information as requested by each participating college or university before the determination of scholarship eligibility.


Scholarship Amount

The North Carolina Education Lottery Scholarship (ELS) provides renewable prize money ranging from $100 to $3000 each academic year, depending on the participating college or university.


Deadline Information

The applicants need to submit the FAFSA along with other required documents on or before the deadline date mentioned on the official website of the North Carolina Education Lottery, which may vary every year.


Eligibility Criteria

The following eligibility criteria need to be met by the applicants in order to apply for the North Carolina Education Lottery Scholarship (ELS)

  • An applicant must be a resident of North Carolina and must hold a citizenship of the United States.

  • A candidate must be enrolled at an eligible North Carolina postsecondary institution (UNC campuses, Community College Campuses, Independent College Campuses, and certain other private colleges).

  • Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program and must demonstrate the need for financial assistance.

  • The applicant must not be eligible for the Federal Pell Grant with an estimated family contribution of $5000 or less.
