About the Scholarship
Paul and Ellen Ruckes Scholarship is awarded by the American Foundation for the Blind people to help and support them financially to overcome the economic burden that they are facing in pursuing academic education.
A scholarship is given to the students who major in engineering, computer science, physical sciences, or life sciences. The main motive behind this fund is to mobilize leaders, advance understanding, and guide students financially to help them achieve their academic goals.
How to apply for this scholarship?
Applications are available from the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) website. All applicants must fill out the scholarship application form in order to receive this fund.
A student must submit three essays which must be in at least 200 words each on the topics listed on the application.
An applicant is also required to submit an official transcript from the school where he/she attended.
Two letters of recommendation must be submitted from the teacher or a counselor.
Additionally, a signed letter from an optometrist, ophthalmologist, or state or private agency for the blind certifying that he/she is legally blind.
Award Amount and Deadline
The award amount for this scholarship is $2000, provided to two eligible candidates.
All the above-mentioned documents along with the application need to be submitted to the concerned department of the organization on or before April 1 of 2020 to be eligible for the scholarship. Candidates are advised to keep track of the deadlines and the official website for any changes in the application process.
An applicant must be a U.S. citizen pursuing their undergraduate or graduate degree in any recognized college or a university.
Must be legally blind. That is an applicant must have best-corrected visual acuity of 20/200 or less in the better eye, and/or a visual field of fewer than 20 degrees in the better eye.
Candidates must be majoring in engineering, computer science, physical sciences, or life sciences.
