About the Scholarship

The PHEAA initiated the Pennsylvania State Grant Program which is a need-based financial assistance program, that provides funding to eligible Pennsylvania students and helps them to cover costs of higher education at the U.G level. PHEAA provides economic assistance to qualified Pennsylvania residents who are in great need of financial aid to attend a PHEAA-approved postsecondary institution. In order to be the recipient of this scholarship award, a student needs to maintain satisfactory academic progress. 


Scholarship Application Process:

  • In order to apply for this scholarship program, an applicant must create an account with the username and password to complete the online scholarship application.

  • As the scholarship is need-based hence applicants need to demonstrate financial assistance by filling up the FAFSA application form, which implies a student's family financial position for academic education.

  • All applicants for the scholarship are nominated according to the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) driven formula. It is used to determine the PA State Grant that will be calculated in accordance with the federal Need Analysis Formula and PHEAA policies.


Award Amount:

The award amount varies based on financial need and the type of school the student attends. The scholarship award varies based on the number of eligible applicants and the amount of funds available.

Deadline:

The deadline date for this scholarship program is 1st May 2019. All applicants are required to apply for this award on or before the mentioned date.


Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be a Pennsylvania resident.

  • The applicant should be a high school graduate as stipulated in the Pennsylvania State Grant law.

  • The applicant must be attending a postsecondary school approved by PHEAA for Pennsylvania State Grant purposes.

  • The student must be enrolled at least half-time.

  • The student should have made satisfactory academic progress.

  • The applicant should not have already earned a bachelor's degree or its equivalent.

  • The applicant should not have received the maximum number of Pennsylvania State Grants permitted.

  • The applicant should not be in default or pending default on an educational loan.
