About the Scholarship

Phoenix Benner created this scholarship in 2013 for students from LGBTQ Native and First Nations with current or future activism and/or leadership in the native community.

The scholarship is sponsored by Pride Foundation and is the only LGBTQ+ community foundation with a vision to ensure that people in the communities live safely and openly as a whole. It serves in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington's northwest region.

How to apply for the Scholarship?

  •  All application must be submitted online.

  •  The individuals must be a resident of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, or Washington but can study elsewhere. 

  •  Applicants must be pursuing post-secondary education which includes a community college, four-year public or private college or university, certificates or diploma program, etc

  •  If selected, students are required to bring a transcript.

  •  Applicants must be physically disabled with limited economic resources.

  •  Students must be members of the LGBTQ and allied community.

Scholarship Amount

The total of the financial reward varies and the Pride Foundation decides it. Generally speaking, the scholarships given through the foundation are at least $500 to a total of $12,000. Last year's cumulative award amount was $4,160. The award is declared every year and is non-renewable.

Deadline for the Scholarship

Deadline for the scholarship is Friday, January 10, 2020. Students are required to submit all documents related to information available online on the official website.

Eligibility Criteria

  •  Must be a high school senior or undergraduate student.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

  • Must identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or as a straight ally dedicated to LGBT causes.

  • Must reside in one of the following states: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana or Alaska.

  • This award is for U.S. students.
