About the Scholarship

The Senator George J. Mitchell Scholarship is awarded by the Mitchell Institute, provides assistance to those citizens of Maine who're facing difficulties in pursuing an educational program of their choice, due to their financial standing.

Eligibility Criteria

The individual applying for the Senator George J. Mitchell Scholarship must:

  • be a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen.

  • be a permanent resident of the state of Maine.

  • be a high school graduate from a public school in Maine.

  • be enrolled in an accredited 2-year or 4-year university or college to pursue a postsecondary degree program.

  • have a good academic standing and active participation in community service.

  • demonstrate a financial need.
