About the Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded by the Funeral Service Foundation, an organization that supports service in building meaningful relationships with the families and the communities it serves. The impact of their work is that the public now recognizes and engages a funeral service professional's expertise. This scholarship was created to honor Shipley Rose Buckner's desire to become a funeral director.


How to apply for the scholarship?

  • The applicant should complete the application which can be found on the Funeral Service Foundation site. 

  • Along with the application, the applicant should also submit an original essay of 750- 1000 words in response to one of the four topics given in the application.

  • Copy of acceptance to an American Board of Funeral Service Education- approved school, and two video responses to the required topics should also be submitted


How much the scholarship award amounts to?

  • The award will be given either as one award of $5,000 or two awards of $2,500 each.

  • They are non-renewable.

  • Funding will be sent directly to the school in the fall term

  • Two awards are offered per year.

The deadline date is set for March 30


Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be enrolled as a funeral service student full- or part-time in an American Board of Funeral Service Education accredited program.

  • Applicants selection is based on the overall strength of the application.
