About the Scholarship

Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program (VGAP) is a scholarship program run by the State Council of Higher Education, Virginia aiming to provide financial assistance to students who want to achieve their dream of completing higher education.

The program is meant for the students residing in Virginia and enrolled in a two-year or four-year degree program at any college or university in the state to motivate the students to improve academic performance and overcome personal adversities. 

The sole purpose of the Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program is to help those students of the state who are financially deprived and are unable to sustain and support higher education.

Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Scholarship Program award amount

The award amount is approximately $10,000 and is sufficient to cover the cost of tuition and other educational needs. The actual award can vary according to the educational institution, but the preliminary objective is to award the maximum scholarship amount to those who need it the most.

The maximum award covers the tuition and fees and book allowance. The total number of recipients vary every year depending on the funds available and the total number of eligible candidates. 

Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Scholarship Program application

  • There is no separate application process for VGAP, the eligible students are expected to fill up the FAFSA form from the official website.

  • The scholarship selection and the application process is maintained separately by the administrative department of all Virginia educational institutions.

  • The 'need' based criteria are determined by the FAFSA. The financial aid office refers to the details provided by the student on the FAFSA website.

  • Each participating college or university requires the students to submit additional forms or supplementary information before the VGAP scholarship eligibility can be determined by the council.

  • All applications must reach the Federal professor for scholarship/grant commission after January 1st every year to be considered for the award the following year. Additional information about the program can be gathered from the financial aid office of the institution.

The scholarship application deadline varies from one institution to another.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The student should be a domiciliary resident of Virginia.

  • The applicant should be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate, graduate, or professional student.

  • The student should be enrolled at an accredited institution for an eligible degree that is not religious training or theological education.
