What is Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET)?

ACCET was established in 1974 to improve proceeding with education and training.

It has been formally approved by the U.S. Department of Education since 1978 as the reliable agency for accreditation of valuable instruction and preparing.

ACCET’s central goal is to rouse and advance quality-aligned continuous education and training through the establishment of proper standards.

  • It is a private, non-profit organization, which is the first national accreditor to achieve the ISO 9001 Quality Management System designation under the International Organization for Standardization.

Eligibility Requirements for colleges for ACCET accreditation

To be eligible for accreditation by AACET, an institution must meet the following requirements-

  • It has control for no less than two years promptly preceding application.

  • It is a foundation that offers post-secondary diplomas, certificates, or degrees up to Associate's level.

  • It has not had an earlier accreditation pulled back from a broadly perceived certifying office, nor has it willfully pulled back under a show cause activity, within one year before application to ACCET.

  • Programs offered must give a plain intuitive segment of instructive technique fitting to the topic and it should be training oriented.

  • It ought to be on a consistent and to convey constant instruction and training for a long time promptly preceding application.

  • It meets appropriate state authorizing prerequisites.

  Am I guaranteed accreditation if I pay?

At the end of each accreditation cycle, accreditation status is made by ACCET’s Commission to determine the institution’s following review of the site visit team report and any additional information submitted in response to the team report by the institution. At that time, the Commission may vote to approve, defer (until such time as the Commission determines that the institution meets all ACCET requirements), or deny accreditation for the instituion.

  What types of institutions are eligible for ACCET accreditation?  

The institutions that are eligible for ACCET accreditation: Trade and professional associations Private career schools Corporate training departments Intensive English programs (IEPs) Social service, volunteer and personal development organization.

ACCET accredits institutions that offer vocational and/or avocational programs that may include short courses, programs offered at the certificate, diploma, and degree levels, as well as courses and programs offered via interactive distance learning.   Does ACCET accredited institutions  are only in US?

ACCET currently accredits institutions and their branches in North and South America, Puerto Rico, and the Middle East.

  What will be the cost of accreditation?

 The cost may vary, but the initial accreditation costs around $8000, final cost being determined by the scope of the institution’s programs. The on-site visit team requires a curriculum specialist for each of the various types of programs offered by the institution, and offering more than one type of program will raise the cost of the site visit fees.

  Does ACCET accredit institutions that offer distance learning programs or degrees?

Accet accredits institutions offering programs that are taught entirely or in part by interactive distance learning, that do not exceed an Associates Degree in length.

  Is it necessary to attend an accreditation workshop? Why and When?

The workshops are designed to provide a review of any recent updates to ACCET’s policies and procedures, and an in-depth study of the ACCET accreditation process.

It is required for those undergoing initial accreditation and for accredited institutions that are in a reaccreditation cycle.

During initial accreditaion, the applicant cannot attend a workshop until the Initial Inquiry has been approved.

  What are the steps in the Accreditation process?

  • The college, university or other institution seeking accreditation status prepares materials that effectively display the institution\'s accomplishments.

  • Once formal paperwork has been submitted, administrative and faculty peers conduct an intensive review of the prepared materials, the written report and the general workings of the college, university or institution seeking accreditation status.

  • Most accreditation organizations also send a team of professionals to visit the college, university or institution seeking accreditation status.

  • The accreditation organization calls upon their


    to review the collected information and affirm or deny accreditation status for the college, university or institution under scrutiny.

  • Accreditation is often an ongoing process, and schools must continually prove that they are meeting

    high quality educational standards year after year.
