The Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) is the authorizing agency that provides accreditation for graduate programs in Healthcare Administration in the United States and Canada.

It is situated in Rockville, Maryland, and is a non-benefit association approved by the Council on Higher Education (CHEA).

The program has to submit an online application and pay the required fees to apply for the accreditation status. The commission follows the procedure given below.

  • The process starts with the submission of the self-study report according to the guidelines set by the agency.

  • Prior to the onsite evaluation, peer reviews about the qualification related to accreditation are taken into consideration.

  • The self-study report and other information are independently analyzed and a site visit is scheduled.

  • After the onsite visit, an evaluation team report is submitted covering the different aspects of the program.

  • Before the accreditation status is granted, the institution has to submit annual reports stating the different qualitative aspects of the program.

  • After multiple annual reports sent after the site visit, the final decision is taken by the CAHME governing body whether to grant the accreditation or not.
