How to Apply to Georgetown University

Step 1: Gather Documents, Forms, and Fees.

Here are the documents you need in your application: 

  • Application form
  • Enrollment fee 
  • Essay, or personal statement: This document is an opportunity for you to describe your personality and achievements. You can also include personal experiences and anecdotes as well. 
  • Transcripts: As a part of the evaluation process, candidates have to submit necessary highschool and university transcripts. An applicant can submit the transcripts through Parchment (or similar platforms). 
  • Official Test Scores: Georgetown requires that you submit test scores for your application. 
  • Teacher recommendation
  • Additional documents: The university may request additional documents or information from the applicants once the reviewing process is over. 
  • Math and English assessments, if applicable
  • Recommended: completion of a college-preparatory program

Step 2:  Submit Your Application

You can apply by either calling the university at (202) 687-0100, or applying online. 

You also have the option to apply in person, by directly visiting the university's administration office at 37th and O St NW, Washington, District of Columbia 20057-0001

Step 3: Confirm Attendance

Upon receiving a notification of acceptance from Georgetown, you'll need to confirm your attendance. The attendance confirmation process also includes a  Financial Check-In process, and housing selection.  These processes include reviewing and verifying the summary of Accounts and Financial Aid (scholarships, fees, and tuition costs), choosing a lodging option, selecting a payment plan, and making the first payment. 

Step 4: Register for Classes

Once you complete the above three steps, you must register for courses.

Most students apply to Georgetown University by their regular admission deadline, which is January 10. Regular applicants usually receive notifications of acceptance by April 1. Students seeking early acceptance must apply by November 1, and they usually hear back by December 15. If you’re applying for any scholarships or financial aid from GU, you’ll have to submit those applications by February 1. 

Applicants must deposit an application fee of $75. This fee is lower compared to other university application fees in the USA.

The Georgetown acceptance rate was at a record low this year, at only 11.7%. While admission statistics specific to gender for the 2021-2022 year weren’t available, Georgetown University has a relatively balanced gender representation in their undergraduate students in 2019. 4,207 of undergraduate students are female, while 3,306 undergraduate students are male.
