LeTourneau University is a private not-for-profit university with an interdenominational religious affiliation. The university was established in 1946 under the name LeTourneau Technical Institute aimed at educating the veterans returning from World War II. The institute is named after its founder, the world renown earthmoving equipment inventor R.G. LeTourneau. The university is presently located at Longview in Texas and has educational centers at Plano, Houston, and McKinney in Texas.   • Student life is engaging at the university. There are 30 recognized student organizations on the campus and the provisions to create more if need be. The Yellow Jacket Activity Council (YAC) and other student organizations plan and execute over 30 events each year. The sports division at the university is a member of the American Southwest Conference, NCAA Division III.
