About the Scholarship

Florida Minority Teacher Education Scholarship Program is accredited by Florida funds for Minority Teachers. The Minority Teacher Education Scholarship (MTES) program was organized for a better Florida's Diversity in Teaching. The organization was started with a mission to develop the number of Minority educators in Florida to better reflect our state’s diverse population and to provide financial assistance. 


What are the basic eligibility needed for this scholarship?

  • Students must submit an essay with 100-300 words describing the life experiences that have impacted them to go into the field of education.

  • A FAFSA application must be submitted by the students in order to apply for this scholarship.

  • Students must demonstrate volunteer activities like writing ability, communication skills, overall academic performance, and evidence of commitment to the youth of America.

  • Official transcripts must be submitted with a letter of recommendation.

 

Florida Minority Teacher Education Scholarship Program award amounts to

  • This scholarship provides $2000 annually which is nonrenewable.

  • Awards are only disbursed during the Fall and Spring semesters, in the amount of $2,000 per semester. Students may be eligible to receive the scholarship for up to two consecutive years.

  • The total number of awards offered by this scholarship varies depending on the number of students available and the availability of funds.

 

Deadline information

The applications are to be submitted by the end of August 2nd for the Fall Semester and November 30th for the Spring Semester. Students are informed to submit the required applications and forms before the due date to meet eligibility. Applications and other information are available on the Florida funds for Minority Teachers website.


Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be a Florida resident and a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.

  • The applicant must belong to one of the following racial groups: African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian American/Pacific Islander or American Indian/Alaskan native.

  • Applicant must be admitted into a teacher education program at any of the program’s eligible participating postsecondary institutions
