About the Scholarship
The scholarship is awarded by the Georgia Student Finance Commission, an organization that has become one of the most successful state student aid operations in the nation. They provide grants, service cancelable loans, and free financial aid consultation.
The main mission of the organization is to ensure Georgians have an opportunity to access education beyond high school. This grant HERO (Helping Educate Reservists and their Offspring) is a state program established to provide financial assistance to members of the Georgia National Guard and U.S. Military Reservists who served in combat zones, children and the spouses of such members are also eligible to receive the scholarship fund.
How to apply for the scholarship?
The applicant should complete the online application which can be found on the Georgia Student Finance Commission website.
Along with the application, the applicant should also submit, documentation of his/her qualifying term of service and deployed date.
How much the scholarship award amounts to?
The award amounts up to $2,000 annually.
The number of awards offered varies each year and depends on the total number of applications received and the availability of funds. A student can contact the financial aid division of their institution to know more about when to submit their documents.
An applicant must be enrolled or accepted for admission to an eligible Georgia college or university.
A student must meet Georgia residency requirements, as defined by GSFA.
A student applicant must meet U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien requirements, as defined by GSFA.
