About the Scholarship

The Jane Austen Society of North America Essay Contest is organized by the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA), an NPO founded for the appreciation and celebration of the great English novelist Jane Austen.

The Jane Austen Society of North America Essay Contest, as the name suggests, is an essay contest that implies the insights of Jane Austen's work. The essay must be 5 - 8 pages long and need to be submitted


How to Apply?

The application and the essay topic for the year can be found online on the official website of the Jane Austin Society of North America. The essay needs to be 5 - 8 pages long, mentioning the applicant's personal views and opinions on Jane Austen's life-long work as a novelist in addition to an MLA notation.

A page of references must be attached to the written essay and must be submitted on or before the deadline date.


Scholarship Amount

A total of 3 monetary rewards are provided by the Jane Austen Society of North America Essay Contest, which are as follows:

  • $1000 - first-prize winner
  • $500 - second-place winner
  • $250 - third-place winner

The winning candidates will also receive a one-year membership of Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA) along with 2-nights lodging accommodating JASNA's Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Minneapolis, Minnesota.


Deadline Information

The required materials must be submitted on or before the deadline date of June 1, 2020.


Eligibility Criteria

In order to be considered for the Jane Austen Society of North America Essay Contest, the applicants must be:

  • a high school, undergraduate or graduate student.
  • an international or a U.S. student
