About the Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded by Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley, an organization that is dedicated to strengthen their community and administer funds to support charities and for social cause. They even provide technical assistance to help nonprofits to operate more productively.

This scholarship was first introduced and was established by the Maynard and Ferne Brownell's family to assist students financially. The scholarship will be applied to tuition fees at accredited colleges or universities for a period not exceeding four years. These scholarship funds can be utilized only for tuition costs at any recognized university or a college for a period of 4 years.


How to apply for the scholarship?

  • The applicant should complete the application which can be found on the Community Foundation of Hudson Valley site. A student needs to sign in to their account with the username and the password to apply for the scholarship.

  • Along with the application, a student need to submit a copy of their high school transcripts to verify their eligibility.

  • An applicant must also submit a copy of the tuition bill to verify the attendance in the college.

  • In addition to this, a student must also submit official SAT/ACT scorecards to determine the academic performance of a student.


Scholarship and Deadlines

The scholarship award amounts to $750 per year and is renewable for up to four additional years with the good grade point average maintained throughout the year.

All the necessary documents and records must be submitted to the financial aid department no later than April 1 to be eligible to receive the funds for the education.


Eligibility Criteria

  • You have to be the graduating senior from Beacon High School, John Jay High School or Roy C. Ketcham High School.

  • You must demonstrate skills and abilities to succeed in college.

  • A student must have participated in school sports or any other community service projects.

  • You must demonstrate your financial need.
