About the Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded by the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley, an organization works on strengthening the community by helping individuals, organizations and monitor funds to support charities, social causes, and non-profit organizations.

This scholarship was established by the Nussbickel family and the Greater Southern Dutchess Chamber of Commerce’s Chamber Foundation in the year 1987 in the memory of Norman Nussbickel and his wife, Rita. The scholarship is awarded yearly to high school seniors from the selected schools who have demonstrated exceptional academic and athletic performance and are also involved in community services.


How to apply for the scholarship?

  • The applicant must complete the application online that can be found on the official website of the Community Foundation of Hudson Valley

  • Along with the application, a student must also submit the essay discussing his/her career goals, community involvement, and personal values in around 500-1000 words.

  • A student must also submit a recent official high school transcript and SAT/ACT scorecard to the financial aid unit before the deadline.

  • Additionally, a copy of SAR and EFC, which is received when completed FAFSA is submitted must be produced. FAFSA application form is filled to determine the financial position and the ability to pay for the education by a student's family.

  • Two letters of recommendation written within 6 months from teacher/counselor, or from a person familiar with his/her skills must be produced.


Award Amount and Deadline

  • The award amounts to $2,000 per year for 4 students and is non-renewable.

Eligibility Criteria

  • An applicant must have to be graduating senior from Arlington, Beacon, John Jay or Roy C. Ketcham High School.

  • A student must an outstanding academic record.

  • An applicant must be involved in any community service work and participation in school or community sports.
