About the Scholarship

SHPE Undergraduate Scholarship is authorized by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). The foundation was established in the year 1973 to change lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support, and development.

SHPE Undergraduate Scholarship is awarded to applicants who are enrolled in a STEM degree program in the U.S. or Puerto Rico. The scholarship will be awarded upon the basis of academic standing and financial need of an individual.


What is the application procedure?

  • The applicant must submit a personal statement and a resume that includes information about their education, work, and volunteer background experience.

  • Students must provide their most recent official transcripts to prove their academics records are well maintained to receive the scholarship award.

  • A letter of recommendation is to be submitted from a teacher or professor that describes a student's academic performance.

  • The understudies applying for this award must present a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application form that is used to determine a financial position of a student and his/her family to pay for their education.


SHPE Undergraduate Scholarship award amount

  • This scholarship amounts to $5000 each academic year and is non-renewable. Previous students are allowed to reapply for the award amount.

  • The total number of awards offered by this scholarship varies annually based on a total number of applications received.


Deadline Information

The applications must be sent to the concerned department no later than April 22, 2020, to be eligible to receive the scholarship fund. Students are advised to keep track of the deadline as any application submitted after the deadline will be disqualified.


Eligibility Criteria

  • An applicant must be enrolled in a STEM degree program in the U.S. or Puerto Rico.

  • A student must have good academic standing and must be maintaining a grade point average of 2.75 out of 4 to be eligible for the scholarship.

  • The applicant must demonstrate a need for financial assistance and be a member of SHPE.

  • Candidates must be enrolled as a full-time student in any recognized university or a college.
