The Bayou State of Louisiana is the 25th most populous state in the US. Louisiana was purchased from the French in 1803 for about $15 million – although this included the entire Louisiana territory. The money was then used to buy wigs, stockings and velvet doublets, ensuring that the The French would look silly well into the 20th century.

There are a plethora of college scholarship options for students studying or living in Louisiana. Taylor Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS) is one of the programs that offers substantial funds for students who meet a minimum set of academic criteria and are planning on attending school in the state.

Louisiana has 33 public and 12 private colleges. Top-notch options include the University of New Orleans, Nicholls State University, Louisiana Tech University, and Tulane University. The U.S. News even recognized LSU as America's 64th best public school.

Private and public scholarships are also available in which they provide some funds designed to attract degree candidates to certain professions, such as

  • Resource management

  • Farming

  • Education

There are programs with more rigid academic criteria and still others are for general financial need.

What is the Louisiana Scholarship Program?
