As it is getting more difficult for the students to pursue a post-secondary education due to the rapid rise in the educational costs, the students of the state of Washington are offered a wide array of scholarships to help them fund their educational expenses. The scholarships are awarded to not only the permanent residents of the state of Washington but to students who are enrolled or planning to enroll in one of the accredited universities, colleges or any other educational institutions. There are around 90 universities, colleges, and technical and vocational schools. These educational institutions include universities like the Washington State University, Gonzaga University and the University of Washington as well as small liberal arts and community colleges like Whitman College and the Evergreen State College.

The students who are exceptional in studies, as well as the ones who are in dire need of financial support, are awarded a huge number of financial aid opportunities such as student loans, work-study programs, grants, and scholarships. Students who receive money through need-based grants and student loans are expected to pay back. Whereas merit-based grants and the other financial aids need not be paid back to the provider unless stated. The financial aids are funded by the federal government, different state corporations, private companies, organizations, and educational institutions in and around the United States.

Though the criteria to qualify as a recipient of the scholarships vary among scholarships, the basic eligibility criteria remain the same some of which are enlisted below:

  • You must be a citizen or an eligible non-citizen of the United States.

  • You must be a permanent resident or a legal non-resident of the state of Washington.

  • You must be enrolled or planning to enroll in one of the accredited universities or colleges in the state of Washington.

The major industries in the state of Washington are lumber and wood production, computer software development, biotechnology, and aircraft manufacturing. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of the major of choice of the student for the educational programs as well.
