As it is difficult to be a parent, it is more difficult to be a single parent. It is often difficult for students who are single and/or parent of one or more children to balance their education and family expenses. For such students who seek financial aid, scholarships are awarded by state and private organizations to help the students finance their education without difficulties. Such scholarships offered to students who are single parents are categorized under single parent scholarships. There are plenty of scholarships available for single dads and single moms. Through these scholarships, the students are able to complete their basic and higher education and make them qualified for jobs to sustain themselves.
These scholarships are generally awarded to students who have lost their spouses to death. This is a great opportunity for those who discontinued their education due to personal issues to get back to studies and complete their education. Some scholarships under this category are:
BYU Marriott School Single Parent Scholarships: Single-parent undergraduates are awarded BYU Marriott School Single Parent Scholarships as a financial help by the Spouse Association of the Marriott School's National Advisory Council. These scholarships are specifically for single mothers.
Ann and Peter Ziegler Scholarship: The single mothers who are enrolled in a four-year institution majoring in Liberal Arts are awarded the Ann and Peter Ziegler Scholarship by the CNM Foundation.
Bernice Murray Scholarship: The Bernice Murray Scholarship Foundation offers scholarships for students who are single parents to help and encourage them to pursue their educational goals. The scholarship is awarded to single fathers only.
