About the Scholarship

VSGC Community College Scholarship is awarded by Virginia Space Grant Consortium (VSGC). In 1989 NASA gave a designation to The Virginia Space Grant Consortium. VSGC goes about as an organization, planning and creating ideas related to aerospace and high technology education and research efforts throughout the Commonwealth, and connecting Virginia’s effort to a national community of shared aerospace interests.

Community College Scholarship is the one-year competitive scholarship program that is provided for an individual based on their academic records. This is the amount that is funded by the NASA and Commonwealth of Virginia. The main idea behind the scholarship amount is to encourage students pursuing an associate degree and plan for a career in technology.

How to get started?

  • In order to receive this scholarship apllicant must fill the FAFSA application form to identify their eligibility criteria and financial position of the family.

  • A student must be enrolled in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) program of study.

  • The student must provide a Letter of Recommendation and contact information for two references of which one must be the applicant’s current faculty advisor.

  • An applicant must submit a short summary of education, work experience, recognizations, or any such information.

  • A recipient must submit all their transcripts and official SAT and ACT scorecards with all the grades.

What is the scholarship amounts to?

  • The scholarship provides a total of $2000 for those students who are enrolled in fulltime.

  • The awards are non-renewable once issued.

  • VSGC offers approximately 5 awards annually based on the availability of funds.

Deadline and information

  • The application is to be submitted by the end of March 13, 2020.

  • Letter of recommendation due date is on March 20, 2020. 

Eligibility Criteria

  • An applicant must be a legally recognized U.S. citizen.

  • A student must be currently enrolled in a Virginia Community College and have completed at least one semester of coursework.

  • It is important that a student is enrolled in a full-time 12 credit hours program during the award period.

  • In order to avail the scholarship benefits, a student must have earned the grade point average of 3.0 out of 4.
