About the Scholarship

The Washington Student Achievement Council accredits and sponsors the Washington State Opportunity Scholarship. The organization provides financial assistance to low-income students who are planning to pursue their education in STEM modules.

A candidate must be pursuing education in majors such as science, technology, engineering, math, or health care to be eligible to receive the scholarship amount.

This grant program supports Washington residents of any age to accomplish their educational goals with no financial burden. This grant providing program offers scholarships in Baccalaureate scholarship and Carrer and technical scholarship.

How to apply for this scholarship?

  • The students applying for this scholarship must complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application to identify how much they can pay for their education.

  • Students applying for this grant must have earned a high school diploma or GED from a Washington state high school or institution.

  • An applicant is required to submit their official transcripts as determined by the WSOS website to demonstrate their excellence in academics.

  • A candidate must also submit their Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA).

Scholarship Award Amount

  • This scholarship award amounts to $2,500 per academic year (three quarters or two semesters) and is renewable for up to two additional academic years depending on the performance of a student.

  • The number of awards offered varies every academic year and depends on the availability in funds and a total number of applications received.

Deadline Information

Students must submit all their documents and forms no later than February 28, 2020.

Students are informed to submit their scholarship applications and other requirements before the due date to avoid their application being rejected.

Eligibility Criteria

  • A student must be enrolled in an eligible Washinton state institution.

  • A candidate must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or above to be eligible for the scholarship.

  • Must be a high school senior, or a college freshman or sophomore at the time of application.

  • A student must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.

  • Must be pursuing an eligible high-demand major in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), or health care.
