About the Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded by the Whitley Law Firm, a personal injury law firm in Raleigh, North Carolina, that is dedicated to obtaining justice. Their programs are designed to help young members of the community through awareness and supporting education. The grant is awarded to undergraduate and graduate students who have been personally impacted or personally seen the consequences of the ongoing opiate crisis. The submitted essays for the grant should reflect steps that the local, state, and federal governments can take up to curb the tide of addiction. 


How to apply for the scholarship?

  • Interested applicants should write an original essay of around 1000 words that addresses the applicant's personal experience with the opioid crisis and ideas for ways to curb the addiction problem.

  • Along with the essay, the applicant must also submit a resume, GPA scoresheet, and academic transcripts.

  • The completed essay along with the other requirements should be sent to info@whitleylawfirm.com with the subject line: “[Applicant’s Name] – Opioid Crisis Scholarship” 


How much the scholarship award amounts to?

  • The award amounts to $1,500 yearly and is non-renewable.

  • One award is provided per year.


Deadline Information

The deadline date is set for October 31

 


Eligibility Criteria

  • Students who have an interest in and has been affected by the opioid crisis in some way.

  • Applicants must be either a GED holder planning to attend college or currently enrolled in college, law school or graduate school.

  • The applicant also must have a GPA of at least 3.0
