Mississippi Teacher Loan Repayment Program

Funds of the State of Mississippi are available through the Mississippi Teacher Loan Repayment Program to help teachers pay back their undergraduate loans if they are currently holding an Alternate Route Teaching License. They must be currently teaching in a Mississippi Teacher Critical Shortage Area or Critical Subject Area.

Eligibility criteria

Qualifying teachers can pay back their student loans through this program if they clear the understated eligibility criteria:

  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen

  • Applicant must hold Mississippi Alternative Route Teaching license and teach in a Mississippi public school district located in a critical teacher or subject shortage area

  • Applicant must not be in default or delinquent on any federal, state or local educational loan

  • Applicant must not have received any funds from the Critical Needs Teacher Forgivable Loan program or the William Winter Teacher Scholar Loan Program.

The Award Amount

The Mississippi Teacher Loan Repayment Program provides an award of up to $3,000 annually for up to 4 years on outstanding qualifying undergraduate educational loans per year of teaching in a critical geographical or subject area.

These loans qualify provided that you use these loans for your undergraduate education. Perkins Loans and Graduate-Level loans do not qualify for loan forgiveness under the Mississippi Teacher Loan Repayment Program.
