UC Berkeley Summer Enrichment Programs for High School 2026

UC Berkeley (University of California, Berkeley) hosts summer programs for pre-college students. Programs include Summer Leap, residential pre-college seminars, and access to Berkeley’s Summer Sessions where high school students can earn college credit on one of America’s top campuses.

Summer Leap

Two-week residential program on Berkeley campus. First-generation and underrepresented students priority. Seminars in STEM, humanities, and social sciences. Students live in dorms, attend lectures from Berkeley faculty, participate in campus tours and research lab visits. Social events build community.

Cost: $2,500 including housing, meals, tuition.

Selectivity: Moderate. GPA 3.0+, essays, transcript review.

Summer Sessions (Academic Credit)

Berkeley’s official Summer Sessions allow high school students (with parental consent) to enroll in regular Berkeley courses. Five-week and ten-week options. All departments open: computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering, economics, etc.

Cost: $1,500–$2,500 per course (housing additional if on-campus).

Rigor: Berkeley courses are challenging. Same rigor as semester courses compressed into shorter summer timeframe. Best for advanced students.

Impact: Earning an A in a Berkeley Summer Sessions course significantly boosts college applications. Shows you can compete at the level of Berkeley’s regular undergraduates.

Research Opportunities

Some high school students (typically rising seniors with exceptional STEM background) are invited to participate in Berkeley summer research projects. This is not an open program; typically arranged through teacher recommendations or Berkeley outreach. Research varies but can be published.
