Founded in 1877, Jackson State University has a distinguished history that is rich in tradition and is known for educating men and women for leadership. It was established as Natchez, Mississippi for the intellectual and moral upliftment of the Christian leaders. The School moved to Jackson in 1882 and became Jackson College. The curriculum kept expanding and graduate and bachelor’s programs were introduced and it became Jackson State College in 1956. Further expansion of the curriculum in 1979 led to the foundation of Jackson State University.

Jackson State University, which is located in Jackson, MS is a public university. In 1877, Jackson State University was founded. Keeping the pursuit of research, innovation, and excellence at the center, Jackson State University has been imparting quality education to its students.
