Institutional scholarships

  • Ann Peele Ambrose Scholarship: this scholarship is provided to support the meritorious students pursue their careers in the administrative assistant field. Students can be full-time or a part-time students and should maintain a minimum GPA of 2.7.
  • Aramark Culinary and Hospitality Management Scholarship: These funds are provided to support the students who want to pursue a career in culinary arts or hospitality management. To be eligible, they should maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 and they can use the funds for tuition and fees, books or other program related expenses incurred.
  • Beazley Foundation Nursing scholarship: These scholarship funds should be used for only tuition, fees and books; provided to the students who want to pursue their career in nursing and demonstrate financial need.

Grants

The students applying for or studying in Tidewater Community College are eligible for different kinds of grants. Federal methodology bases the amount of the award on the EFC, the cost of attendance, enrollment status (full-time or part-time), and the number of semesters attended in the academic year. 

The different kinds of grants awarded are:

Federal grants

  • Pell Grants: These grants are like a gift aid and do not have to be repaid. The eligibility for this grant depends on the student’s EFC and enrolment status.

  • Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG): These funds are limited and are provided by TCC to the students on a first come, first served basis only to the students who show exceptional financial need. 

State grants

TCC students are also awarded with many grants by the Commonwealth of Virginia. These are provided to the Virginia state residents along with some other eligibility requirements.

  • Commonwealth Award (COMA): These grants are provided to the Virginia residents who show exceptional financial need and who are not eligible for any other kind of scholarship or grant. The grant amount may not exceed the tuition and fees amount.

  • Part-time Tuition Assistance Program (PTAP): students must be enrolled for eight or fewer credit hours to be eligible for this grant. You should be a Virginia state resident and must show financial need.

  • Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program(VGAP): Students who want to apply for this program should have a SAT score of 980 or an ACT score of at least 19. You should be enrolled full time for a degree and must be a graduate of a high school with a minimum GPA of 2.5  on a 4.0 scale.
