Widener University is an online university located in Chester, Pennsylvania and was established in the year 1821. It is a private not-for-profit and co-educational university spread over 108 acres of area. 

The founder of the University is John Bullock. The university was initially named, the bullock school for boys where young men were trained prior to their college-entry. Thought the name of the university has changed over the years, the motto has always remained the same.

The university has taken several names since its inception. It was from 1979 that the college saw a tremendous growth to become Widener University. 

It believes in a shift from the traditional system of education. And thus the students are subjected to an experimental curriculum. The students here are taught not just what lies in textbooks, but also lessons of leadership and service.

The curriculum is designed to accommodate sufficient sessions to impart practical knowledge. Hands-on-learning is supplemented with service-oriented-education and hence it helps facilitate career growth.

Widener University is one of the renowned University in the world which is offering online Undergraduate and graduate programs. There are many criteria’s given by the Widener University in order to get admission to a particular program. The students applying for this college must first get pass through eligibility criteria given by the University. The students who are applying for Masters in business Administration (MBA) and Masters in social work (MSW) must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited University. An associate degree and a registered nurse license are required for RN to BSN candidates.

For any University admission, there is always an eligibility criterion for GPA in the degree education. So it is required by the student to fulfill the noted eligibility criteria by the University in order to seek admission in the particular university. In the same way, the Widener University has also kept a GPA criteria i.e. for the students who are applying for online MBA courses the students must have a minimum of 2.7 GPA in their undergraduate education.For the MSW programs, the candidates must have a GPA of 3.0 in their undergraduate years. The students who have a GPA less than 3.0 is also given the admission under certain conditions that the candidate must show the potential to successfully complete the program with distinction.

A minimum of 2.0 GPA is required for the RN-to-BSN candidates. Widener University also considers the GMAT test scores and English proficiency test scores for the selection criteria. The students applying for the Master of business administration (MBA) should have their GMAT score of at least 450. A score of at least 95 is required for the international students in the test of English as a foreign language (TOEFL). This score is minimum for all the programs. The programs are entirely online and in English.The students applied for admission must undergo several tests, they should take either the SAT reasoning test of the college entrance examination board or the American college test of American college testing Program. The students who have applied for the admission are requested to take the campus visits.

During the admission, the applicants undergo the individual evaluation to determine the potential for success. The following steps taken to complete the application are:-

  • For the MSW programs, the candidates must have a GPA of 3.0 in their undergraduate years.

The students are advised to complete their senior year of secondary school rather than bypassing it in favor of early admission to college. The university invites the matriculation of students from other nations and is authorized under federal law to issue SEVIS form I-20 for visa application. A specific “International Student Application” is provided electronically for use by all international applicants, including those who have completed their secondary education in the United States. After the Application process, the students who are selected must immediately submit the following items for the consideration of the online programs at the widener university:-

  • Candidates have to complete the application form.
  • Statement of purpose (MBA & MSW only): An MBA requires a brief summary of why you want to enroll and MSW requires a four and six double-spaced page document on personal background, career objectives and personal evaluation. Please ask your Program Manager for full details on what each program requires.
  • Two letters of recommendations (MBA & MSW only) – MSW candidates who have completed their undergraduate degrees within the last six years must submit one academic reference letter.
  • Official college transcripts from each school you’ve attended.

RN-to-BSN candidates must reach out to a Program Manager to complete a credit evaluation. This will allow us to determine if you meet all of Widener’s pre-requisites and will help you plan accordingly.
