El Camino College is a public institution dedicated to providing excellent comprehensive educational programs and services that promote student learning and success in collaboration with its diverse communities.

In the year 1946, after strong recommendations by a consulting team to establish a two-year college in the Inglewood-South Bay area, the governing boards of the Centinela Valley, Redondo, Inglewood, and El Segundo districts decided to create of a junior college. Torrance soon joined the newly chartered group, and the El Camino Community College District was officially established on July 1, 1947. The college is situated on a beautiful and spacious 126-acre campus near Torrance, California.

ECC strives to make a positive difference in people’s lives. The college envisions to be a college of equity and innovation by transforming, strengthening, and inspiring our community to excel through learning. ECC’s highest value is placed on its students and their educational goals; interwoven in that value is its recognition that the faculty and staff of El Camino College are the College’s stability, its source of strength, and its driving force.

El Camino College has a current population of over 24,820 students and a student-faculty ratio of 28:1. This implies that its students get quite a good opportunity to interact with the faculty. ECC boasts a curriculum of over 850 highly regarded academic and career programs taught by exceptional faculty.

The college has nine academic divisions - Behavioral & Social Sciences, Health Sciences & Athletics, Learning Resources, Business, Humanities, Mathematical Sciences, Fine Arts, Industry & Technology, and Natural Sciences, which comprise over 75 academic programs.

Each division offers a comprehensive transfer, degree, or certificate program. ECC offers transfer majors for students planning to transfer to a university or professional school. It also offers an extensive list of certificate programs and A.A or A.S. Degrees. The faculty are experts in their field–all have master's degrees or equivalent. They are dedicated to classroom teaching – there are no graduate assistants or aids teaching classes.

The Warrior Welcome Center of El Camino College is every applicants’ one-stop-shop for becoming a student at ECC. Its mission is to provide new, current, and returning students guidance on completing the necessary steps to enroll at El Camino.

Since the college curriculum consists of a wide variety of programs under various academic divisions, it does not have any uniform admissions requirements. The goal of the Financial Aid Office of El Camino College is to assist students in securing a quality education without missing an opportunity because of their financial situation. It meets its goal majorly through supplementing the efforts of its students (and those supporting its students) in meeting educational cost and by providing financial aid to students who would be unable to attend this institution without such assistance.

ECC assists qualified students with grants, loans, and scholarships from Federal, State, Institutional, and other funding sources.
