Mount St. Mary's occupies that unusual sweet spot: Catholic identity that's intellectually serious, not just spiritually comfortable. Emmitsburg puts you near genuine history (Gettysburg's a short drive), near Philly, near DC—plenty of internship corridors without feeling like you're in a sprawl. The campus is genuinely beautiful, actually historic, built for walking.
About 1,700 undergrads, so classes stay small in your major but you're not everyone's best friend. Pre-med is legitimately strong here; students get into medical school at respectable rates because the advising is real and competitive. Business and education are solid too. Jesuits aren't running this one—it's Vincentian, a different flavor of Catholic education with different emphases.
The residential community matters. Most students stay on campus all four years, which means something about the experience. Parties exist, but they're not the central narrative.
