About the Scholarship
The scholarship is awarded by the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, a state agency that serves people with disabilities.
The organization provides assistance throughout a lifetime for those household head is blind and the whole family income 1.3 times below the current poverty income level. Students must be initiated into this scholarship program before the 23rd birthday.
How to apply for the scholarship?
Applicants who are eligible should contact the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services for scholarship applications and must fill and submit it by attaching all the supporting documents.
Along with a completed application, the applicant must also submit a blindness certification form to show they are blind.
A student must also submit a copy of the U.S. individual income tax returns and FAFSA before the deadline.
How much the scholarship award amounts to?
This award amounts to $500, which can be used by a student to covers tuition, fees, and the cost of textbooks at an eligible institution.
The scholarship amount provided is renewable for up to four academic years for which the scholarship amount differs each year and depends on the total funds available.
All the necessary documents must be submitted to the organization on or before September 30 to be eligible to get the scholarship.
An applicant must be a resident of Alabama for at least five years.
A student must demonstrate their financial needs and be from a family whose income is below the current poverty income level.
A recipient must be attending the Alabama Public School.
