About the Scholarship

The AlaskAdvantage Education Grant Program (AEG) was founded by the Alaska legislature to provide need-based financial aid to eligible Alaska students attending qualifying postsecondary educational institutions in the state.

Funding is provided to eligible applicants who are enrolled in qualifying workforce shortage programs such as teaching or other forms of social/community service, allied health sciences and process industries.

The Standard Alaska Cost of Attendance includes the average annual tuition fee at the University of Alaska system for both full time and half time attendance, and other required fees, such as accommodation fee, for both dependent and independent students.

AlaskAdvantage Education Grant award amount

The grant amount is awarded by the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education

  • Grant amount varies in the range of $500 to $4,000 annually. The awards are not automatically renewable but the recipients may reapply every year by completing the FAFSA.

  • An increased award amount might be given to students enrolled in 15 credits per semester but the award amount can not exceed $16,000 over the course of their education.

  • The number of recipients is not fixed and it depends on the program funds and the number of eligible candidates. Approximately, 800 awards are offered every year.
