About the Scholarship
The scholarship is awarded by the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley, an organization that facilitates philanthropy and works to strengthen the community and administer funds that support charities and vital causes. They even provide technical assistance to help nonprofits operate more productively.
This scholarship was established in memory of Andy Vito, Harold Tompkins, and Ron Vece by the Hudson Valley Umpires Association. The scholarship is awarded to help a recipient to pay for their education to pursue the degree of their dream.
How to apply for the scholarship?
The applicant must complete the application which can be found on the Community Foundation of the Hudson Valley site.
In addition, a student also fill out the FAFSA application form that is used to determine the financial position of a student and their family.
Along with the application, the applicant should also submit an essay of approximately 500 words discussing career goals, personal values, and community involvement.
Two recommendation letters (one of them must be from baseball coach), a copy of SAR, and official transcripts must be submitted.
Award Amount and Deadline
The award amounts to $750 - $1,000 per year and is non-renewable. The award is provided to one perfect candidate who fulfills all the basic requirements. The amount provided depends on the funds available and total number of applications received for a year.
A student must submit an application along with all the necessary documents no later than April 1. This the deadline for the previous year.
An applicant should be a graduating senior from a Dutchess County high school.
A student should have participated in high school baseball and must be a legal resident of the United States.
