About the Scholarship

Burger King Scholarship was created in the memory of the Burger King co-founder, James ‘Jim’ W. McLamore in the year 2005. It has a charitable, non-profit organization set up. Till the present time, the burger king scholarship was awarded for more than thirty thousand students and the burger king scholarship amount has been worth 37 million till date, for the Burger King employees and their respective families across the countries like United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. 

In the year 2018, the burger king scholarships winners have been awarded by the foundation of approximately 3.7 million dollars to 3,400 students and more, in the North America region alone. It is awarded for both the high school and degree level students.

The prize money for the scholarship ranges between $1000 dollars to $50,000 and is aimed to help the students cover their cost of attendance at a college/university or the post-secondary technical or vocational institute.

The students are selected on the basis of their grade point average or GPA, the extra-curricular activities they are involved in, work experience if they hold any and the community service practices. 

The burger king scholarship 2019-2020 deadline starts from 15th October 2018 to 15th December 2018. The foundation with the help of its Burger King employees, the suppliers, and franchisees, has successfully made a positive and lasting effect on the communities where we work and live. 

The burger king scholarship program is administered and governed by Scholarship America. The awards are presented without any discrimination on various bases such as color, religion, race, disability, nationality and other factors. 


Burger King scholarship selection

The selection process will be web-based as the online application would be provided. The first 50 thousand applications will be submitted and processed. The applications must be completed in English, French or Spanish. The applications shouldn’t be incomplete.

Evaluation of recipients for every pool would be as follows-

  • Burger King General Track- The preference would be given to the academic record of the candidate (for 50%) and the involvement in community service and school. (50%).

  • Burger King Employee-Based Track- It is based on the children of the employees, their spouses, or an employee pursuing education. The emphasis would be given to the academic record of the candidate (50%), his/her participation in community activity and school (50%).

  • Burger King Employee-Based Track- For employees or the domestic partner/spouse or an employee who is pursuing the enrichment program. The consideration would be given to the applicant’s participation in school or community services (50%) and the length of service with designated employees.

  • James W. McLamore Whopper- The consideration will be given to the academic record of the applicant and his/her participation in community and school services, their work experience. Assistance and need financially would be considered.


Documents required for Burger King scholarship

While applying for the scholarship, you need to submit certain mandatory documents. Keep the following documents ready to avoid last minute hassle.

  • The students are required to submit the high school grades transcripts or the college grade transcripts.

  • The reports of the grades are not accepted. If the documents are online or unofficial, it should clearly mention the name of the student, grades, school name and the credit hours for the course and the term undertaken.

  • Applicants are responsible for submitting the correct information relevant to the application form.

  • The acknowledgment receipt will be emailed to the students by Scholarship America. The incomplete application form will not be considered and once 50,000 submissions are completed, the applications applied after that will not be processed.

  • The details are reviewed by Scholarship America alone. The limited information shall be shared by Burger King Corporation


Burger King Scholarship application notification

The Burger King Scholarship notification would be announced for the candidates in the month of May.

If the student is selected as a recipient, then he/she will be required for submission of the additional information for the Burger King Scholarship result.

If the information is not provided, the recipients would be considered ineligible. All the applicants would not be selected as recipients for the program. 


Burger King Scholarship award payments

One installment payment is made in the month of August. Scholarship America mails the checks to the home address provided by the recipient. Checks are payable to the college on behalf of the students.

Scholarship checks are issued by Scholarship America on behalf of the Burger King McLamore Foundation. The recipients of James W. Mclamore taking up enrichment courses will get a different payment. 


Responsibilities of a Burger King Scholarship recipient 

There are certain things that need to be taken care of. As a recipient, you must ensure that you carry out the following responsibilities. 

  • A complete acceptance form must be submitted by the recipient to Scholarship America before the deadline.

  • The University or the College must be notified about the details of the awards by the recipient and the scholarship check must be delivered on time.

  • If there is any change about school enrollment, the address or other information, a recipient should notify Scholarship America.
