About the Scholarship

The Melbourne & Alice E. Frontjes Scholarship is awarded by Grand Rapids Community Foundation. GRF was established in the year 1922. The Foundation has made grants for almost 100 years in Kent County, helping nonprofits' needs and students succeed. The Foundation is one of the oldest in Michigan.

The Scholarships are provided every year in honor of Melbourne & Alice E. Frontjes to students enrolled for the undergraduate program at a Central Michigan University, Western Michigan University, Grand Rapids Community College, or Michigan State University. GRC awards more than hundreds of scholarships annually to the students of Kent County, who are bound for their education in colleges, or those pursuing a technical career.

How to apply for the scholarship?

  • The recipient must File their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before the application deadline.

  • An applicant must provide all their transcripts and official ACT and SAT scorecard.

  • Students applying for the scholarship must provide an essay answering the questions on an application form.

What is the scholarship amount?

  • The scholarship award varies from $500 to $5000 based on the funds' availability and student's financial needs.

  • The scholarship provides $1000 annually for the students meeting their eligibility criteria and the awards issued are non-renewable.

Deadline and Total Awards

  • This scholarship offers a total of one award every year for 1 student.

  • The applicants must submit their application forms which are available on the official website of Grand Rapids Community Foundation

  • The applications are to be submitted to the university by the end of March 01, 2020.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Student should be a resident of Kent County (3-year minimum) who will be attending Grand Rapids Community College or Grand Valley State University

  • The students applying this scholarship must have a 3.0 minimum GPA out of 4 to be eligible for applying to the scholarship.

  • The applicant must demonstrate the need for financial assistance.

  • Must be pursuing a full-time undergraduate degree in the field of Education at any Michigan public or private college/university.
