The University of Florida is a public institution located in Gainesville, Florida. UF was established 160 years ago and has continued pushing its boundaries to reach excellence. The university opened as a school in Gainesville, known as the Gainesville academy and was relocated in exchange for the East Florida Seminary.
The Florida Museum of National History became a part of the university in 1906 and in 2000, the McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity was opened in the University. In 1928, the grant-in-aid athletic scholarship program was established by John J. Tigert.
The university became a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU) in 1985. The Philips Center for Performing Arts was founded in 1985. The Dance Marathon Program is another great program at the university where students stay on feet for more than 26.2 hours.
