Chemistry is a complex subject that deals with the study of properties, characteristics, and physical and chemical changes of matter. This branch of science also deals with the substances of which matter is composed, analysis of properties and reactions and the use of reactions to produce new substances.
The subjects which are taught to the Chemistry students are both theoretical and practical. The subjects/concepts that are covered in Chemistry are stoichiometry, thermodynamics, nuclear chemistry, electrochemistry, chemical kinetics. Some of the practical experiments in Chemistry include electrolysis, rates of reaction and salt preparation.
An Associate’s degree in Chemistry is a two-year degree program that requires a minimum of 15-30 credits.
A Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry requires 50-60 credits and takes around 3-4 years to complete.
A Master’s degree in Chemistry is a two-year degree program that requires around 80 credits and a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Most of the practical/field work is taught in the Master's degree.
There are few requirements which need to be fulfilled before one applies for an admission in the chemistry program. The student should have a high school diploma with a minimum of 2.0- 3.0 GPA.
With a degree in Chemistry, a student develops his/her transferable skills like analysis and problem solving, written and oral communication, research and presentation, and critical thinking skills.
