Scholarships

Based on a number of factors, such as, academic achievement, community service, leadership, financial need, and a number of other factors, Buena Vista University offers various scholarships to undergraduate residential students. BVU provides scholarships to reward the students with academic accomplishments for their whole-hearted dedication and accomplishment. 

Here is a consolidated list for you to look through the scholarships offered along with their criteria and the amount offered:

  • Multicultural scholarships: These are awarded on the basis of GPA and ACT combined. Students must also demonstrate abilities in and/or desire to be engaged in campus multicultural-based activities and organizations. $4,000 additional award is stacked on top of the merit scholarship. Students admitted before Jan 30 must interview by Feb. 28. Students admitted after Jan. 30 must interview within 30 days of admission. Students admitted after May 1 are not eligible.

The few merit based scholarships are as follows: 

  • President’s scholarship: Around US$22,000-US$27,000 per year is provided to the students who show academic excellence. This scholarship is renewed on the basis of a criteria above 2.5 CGPA.

  • Heritage scholarship: This scholarship is also renewed every year with the criteria of 2.5 CGPA or above. An amount of US$19,000-US$24,000 per year is awarded to the eligible students.

  • Arch scholarship: For this scholarship the criteria for renewability is 2.5 CGPA to renew with an award amount of US$16,000-US$21,000 per year.

  • Legacy Scholarships: Award for any student beginning enrollment at Buena Vista University who has a parent or grandparent with a degree from BVU with an award amount of US$1,000 per year. 

  • Rural Iowa scholarship: This award is available to first year Storm Lake campus students who have demonstrated financial need, have a strong academic record, have been an active participant in school and their local community through organization involvement and volunteering. The students must hail from one of the following 19 Northwest Iowa counties: Buena Vista, Calhoun, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Humboldt, Ida, Kossuth, Lyon, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Pocahontas, O’Brien, Osceola, Sac, Sioux, Webster, and Woodbury. Up to $5,000 per year for four years is given to the students who fulfill this criteria.

Grants

Grants are need based financial aids awarded to students which need not be paid back. Rather institutions do provide such opportunities to directly offset costs for the recipients to overcome or combat severe financial circumstances which might act as a barrier in their academics.

Federal Grants

Under this category, grants are of three types: Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) & Federal TEACH Grant applicable to undergraduates having demonstrated need as determined by the Federal Government and the funding level approved by Congress through the completion of FAFSA annually.
