Sam Houston State University is a public institution located in Huntsville, Texas.

The motto of the university is ‘The measure of a Life is its Service’. SHSU strives to meet the needs of contemporary students, both traditional and online. The university was founded in 1879 and is the third-oldest public college or university in Texas. It is named after Mr. Sam Houston who is regarded as Texas' greatest hero.
