Apart from submitting the documents and other required information, the candidates should also deposit an application fee of $70. The deadline to apply to the varsity depends on various factors. The Fall applications that start in September and go on till April are the most preferred among students. Though the final deadline is in April, a September deadline has also been fixed which pertains to early decisions. San Jose State University is a public university, so it isn’t surprising that it has relatively high acceptance rates.

Of the 36,243 students who applied to the school, 19,811 (or 55%) were accepted. However, of those students, only 3,774 (19%) chose to enroll in the school, with the remaining 81% choosing to defer going to college or enroll elsewhere.

The school is slightly less selective than some other public schools in California, including California State University, Fullerton, which accepted the applications of 43% of applicants. However, it is more selective than others, such as James Madison University, which accepted 71% of its applicants.


The school was similarly popular with both men and women, with a ratio of 1.003 male applicants for each female applicant. However, the acceptance rate and enrollment rate for female students was much higher than the yield for male students, resulting in a ratio of  1.13 female students entering the school for each male student.
