Of the 36,243 students who applied to the school, 19,811 (or 55%) were accepted. However, of those students, only 3,774 (19%) chose to enroll in the school, with the remaining 81% choosing to defer going to college or enroll elsewhere.
The school is slightly less selective than some other public schools in California, including California State University, Fullerton, which accepted the applications of 43% of applicants. However, it is more selective than others, such as James Madison University, which accepted 71% of its applicants.
The school was similarly popular with both men and women, with a ratio of 1.003 male applicants for each female applicant. However, the acceptance rate and enrollment rate for female students was much higher than the yield for male students, resulting in a ratio of 1.13 female students entering the school for each male student.
The admissions rate and yield of a school are useful metrics for prospective students to look at when choosing a school to apply to. If you’re looking for a safety school, a school with a high acceptance rate is a good thing. However, it should be noted that high acceptance rates may indicate less prestigious or rigorous programs.
