It was founded in February 1977 by Ralph D. Winter. The university is licensed and is recognized by the State of California to provide various degrees. William Carey International University (WCIU) campus is constructed in 15 acres which includes campus buildings and housing.
The University follows the education by extension model without residency requirements. After revising its patented World Christian Foundations (WCF) curriculum the programs in the college were called WCIU’s BA and MA degree programs which were earlier called just BA and MA degrees.
The online programs offered by the college is the Master of Arts in International Development. WCIU major includes Business Management.
