About the Scholarship

AMVETS National Scholarship Program for High School Seniors is sponsored by American Veterans, the motive of this scholarship is to assist the students economically to provide postsecondary education for the children and grandchildren of veterans, who are unable to pursue their post-secondary education because of financial problem. The applicant must demonstrate academic progress and financial need and must agree to authorize AMVETS to publicize his/her scholarship award.


How to Apply for Scholarship?

  • Applications are available on the American Veterans (AMVETS) website. To be considered for this scholarship program, all applicants must complete the online application procedure.

  • In addition to a completed application, the student must also submit the following: an official high school transcript including the first grading period of the senior year in high school and a copy of the applicant's SAT and/or ACT scores.

  • An applicant must provide a signed copy of the parent(s)'/guardian(s)' 1040 tax form, and a copy of the applicant's FAFSA.

  • A recipient must give a copy of the acceptance letter from the accredited school that the student plans to attend and proof of college education expenses.

  • He/She is also required to submit a resume detailing extracurricular activities, volunteer activities, community services, and jobs held during the past four years, and a copy of the veteran's AMVETS membership card or honorable discharge letter.

  • If the applicant's parent and/or grandparent is not a member, he/she can complete the membership application page two of the scholarship application. The FAFSA is available online as well as in a high school guidance office, and at college financial aid offices.

  • The application and all supporting documents must be submitted online by the deadline date.


Award Amount and Deadline Information:

The scholarship award amounts to $1000 available to many applicants per academic year.

The deadline date for this scholarship is on 30th April 2019. Hence all applicants must submit the official transcripts on or before the given deadline date.


Eligibility Criteria

  • An applicant must be a graduating high school senior entering college at the freshman level in the upcoming fall semester.

  • A recipient must be a U.S. citizen.

  • A student must be the child or grandchild of a United States veteran who is an AMVETS member, or if deceased, would have been eligible for AMVETS membership.

  • A candidate must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

  • He/She must have a veteran parent, grandparent, or guardian.
