Several students discontinue their education due to high educational expenses. To meet these expenses, the students are offered different financial aids like grants, loans, and work-study programs. Among these aids, scholarships are the most convenient and easily available financial aids as the money received as scholarship need not be paid back as it is not awarded based on the financial need of the students but the academic status and other achievements of the student. The scholarships are offered by the federal government, state and private organizations and the universities, colleges and other institutions the students have enrolled in. The scholarships are awarded to the residents of the state of West Virginia as well as the students who seek education in the accredited universities and colleges of the state.

West Virginia is home to 45 universities and colleges including the two oldest higher learning institutions- West Liberty University and Marshall University. The other universities include the University of Charleston, West Virginia University, Fairmont State University and so on. West Virginia has different industries that include coal production and green energy production through wind turbines. Some scholarships offered to the student of the state of West Virginia are enlisted below:

  • West Virginia Higher Education Grant Program: The West Virginia Higher Education Grant Program provides financial support to the undergraduate students who demonstrate need who are enrolled in accredited colleges and universities located in West Virginia.

  • West Virginia PROMISE Scholarships: The qualified students of the state of West Virginia are offered the West Virginia PROMISE Scholarships based on their merit to meet the college costs.
