Scholarships
The following scholarships are awarded to students at American University:

Freshman Merit Award: This award consists of many scholarships for which the student does not need to fill up different applications for different scholarships. It consists of scholarships such as the Presidential Scholarship, Frederick Douglass Scholarship, etc. These scholarships are renewable as long as the students remain eligible for it as per the criteria that are determined by the financial assistance office. Students who are within the Top 10-15 ranks are considered eligible for a merit award and may receive an amount of $8,000 to $22,000 annually.

PHI THETA KAPPA Scholarship: This scholarship, that’s worth $10,000, is exclusive to transfer students who are members of the Phi Theta Kappa Society and possess an aggregate GPA score of 3.2, with a minimum of 12 credits per semester, whereas students must successfully complete academic with overall 30 credits.

Tuition Exchange Scholarships: This is a merit-based scholarship that is solely based on academics. In this scholarship, the student offered the amount of $38,000 per year, and to remain eligible for this scholarship student must satisfy the required criterion set by the university. Students need to maintain a GPA of 3.2 and complete every academic year with overall 30 credits, whereas students need to opt for a minimum of 12 credits per semester.

United Methodist Graduate Scholarship: This scholarship is exclusively for the graduates where a graduate student serves as an active member of the United Methodist Church.
Grants

Pell Grant: Pell Grant is offered to the student who did not earn their bachelor’s degree and they want to enrol in the university to earn their first bachelor’s degree. This grant is awarded to those students who exhibit the financial need and in the need of great financial aid.

Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant: SEOG is a supplementary grant which is granted along with a Pell grant who demonstrated the crucial financial help by fulfilling FAFSA.

AU Grant: Irrespective of the other grant student received this institutional grant adjusted along with them and replaced with any other award to meet the expenses if any restriction is implied on the student need and AU grant is only applicable to tuition alone. Students cannot use the award amount to pay for any other expenses.
