Lynn University is a private not-for-profit type university. It started as a finishing school for women in 1962 by the religious order of the Sacred Heart of Mary. It is an internationally renowned university.

Its first distinguished speaker was George H.W. Bush in 1983. 'Lance the Knight' is the school mascot for the university. The university has around 2,842 students enrolled in various undergraduate and graduate programs and has students from 93 countries.

Lynn University is also well known for their athletics team, who are known as Fighting Knights. Every year Fighting Knights represent Lynn University in NCCA Division-2, Intercollege Sports. They compete as a member os Sunshine Conference for all 14 varsity sports. Till now Lynn University teams have won 22 NCAA and NAIA championships and 30 Sunshine Conference championships (SSC). In December 2019 SSC and Coach of the Year title were Lynn University volleyball's achievements.
