Selma University, which is located in Selma, AL is a private, Baptist university. It was in 1878 when the Selma University was founded. Notably, the official colors of the university are blue and white. In addition to over 310 undergraduate students, SU also boasts of over 13 students in its postgraduate courses, taking the total enrollment to over 600. To teach various courses to the students, the school has employed a total of 46 faculty. Selma University is home to an ethnically diverse student body. At SU around 97% are Black or African American, 2% are white, and 1% belong to Hispanic ethnicity. Further, around 56% of the students are 25 and over. When it comes to gender distribution at the varsity, around 57% of the students are females and 43% are males. The college has produced several achievers in its 142 years of existence and some of the notable alumni are Juanita Abernathy, Joe Azbell, Autherine Lucy, and Fred Shuttlesworth. The school believes in the all-round growth of the students and therefore, encourages students to take part in several sporting activities, conducted inside the campus. Further, it boasts of a decent sports infrastructure. A total of 21 programs, including both residential and online, are currently offered by SU. The university also has a long list of accreditations.
