McCann School of Business & Technology was established in 1897 at Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania. The McCann School of Business & Technology which is founded by Louis McCann began as a training school for accountancy and secretarial work. Louis McCann and his two sons Dwight and Charles managed the school until Dwight passed away in 1956.  Dorothy Houser began serving as director after Dwight McCann’s passed and in 1959 purchased the school in partnership with her husband, Harry D. Houser. McCann School of Business was accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Association of Independent Colleges and Schools under their leadership. The accreditation agency which accredited the school is now known as Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools

The McCann Education Centers, Inc. was formed after James and Elizabeth Noone purchased the school from the Housers in 1981. To provide a better service and quality of education to residents of southern Schuylkill County, the school opened an additional location in Pottsville, Pennsylvania in 1995. In September 1998, the third campus of McCann began operations in downtown Sunbury, Northumberland County. McCann underwent quite a few major changes from 1995 to 1998. To provide the residents of southern Schuylkill County with quality career education, the Pottsville, Pennsylvania opened in 1995. McCann started a partnership and full diction agreement with Alvernia College of Reading, Pennsylvania in the same year. To fulfill the need for quality business training in Northumberland, Montour, Snyder, Union and Columbia Regions, McCann opened a third campus in Sunbury, PA in 1998

McCann Educational Centers Inc. was attained by the company which is now known as Delta Career Education Corporation headquartered in Virginia Beach, Virginia in August 2002. The Scranton campus relocated to Dickson City, Lackawanna County, in 2008 which opened in 2003. In 2009, the original Mahanoy City campus opened additional locations in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and Allentown, Pennsylvania and the school relocated to Hazleton in 2005. McCann School of Business & Technology is a leader in education now as in the past. General McCann School of Business & Technology Admissions Requirements

An exchange of information between the applicant and an Admissions Representative either on campus or by remote representatives is required for the admission procedure. The representative will discuss the school’s educational programs in relation to the applicant’s career preferences, training needs, and individual motivation by conducting a personal interview with each applicant. The interview plays a vital role in helping the applicant to determine whether the programs offered at the campus will help them achieve their career goals or not and if they will move forward with enrollment. Applicants who were in High School are encouraged to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Applicants who are seeking to enter a program in McCann School of Business & Technology must meet the following admission requirements:  

  • Applicants must meet a minimum score of 13 or higher in the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam (SLE)
  • The applicant may be re-tested using an alternate test form and taking the test as timed before if an applicant fails to meet the necessary score for admission
  • The applicant may be retested a number of times without any limit
  • For the applicants holding an Associate Degree or higher, entrance evaluation may be ignored
  • To determine the students’ need for foundational coursework in the areas of English and Mathematics, basic skills assessments were used
  • To determine whether the school is approved for enrollment based on the international applicant’s immigration status or not, the international students interested in enrolling should contact the school

 Prior Education Requirements

  • Applicant must have received any one of the following educational credentials from a McCann School of Business & Technology Pottsville recognized organization individually: a high school diploma or equivalent or a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
  • An “Attestation Regarding High School Graduation or Equivalency”  is required to be signed by the applicant
  • The attestation indicates that the students meet the school’s requirements for admission unless they submit proof of high school graduation or a recognized equivalency certificate (GED) to the school by providing with a copy of the diploma, transcript confirming graduation, GED certificate or other equivalent documentation to school
  • For a student who was enrolled in a Title IV-eligible program of study at McCann School of Business & Technology Pottsville but without a high school diploma or its equivalent will consider postponing satisfaction of the admission until the student’s date of graduation from the college as long as it allows such postponement
  • A student should discuss his or her situation with the Campus Director prior to enrollment in the circumstances mentioned above

 McCann School of Business & Technology Assessments

  • Prior to enrollment and a basic skills assessment, the school requires an entrance examination the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Examination (SLE).
  • The students who enrolled in programs that require English (EN or ENG) and Math (MH and MTH) courses are required to complete the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (WBST) prior to the first term to measure the level of academic skill achievement
  • To evaluate each student’s qualification for admission, the school uses results from the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Examination (SLE)
  • Based on the documentation of prior academic work, the Director of Education may waive the SLE for students
  • The candidates who have previously completed a degree will not be required to take the SLE if the candidates show evidence of degree completion in the form of an official transcript preceding to enrollment
  • The applicants are required to take the SLE if they do not provide evidence of having completed a degree
  • To determine whether an applicant will need to take Foundations coursework in programs that require English (EN or ENG) and Math (MH or MTH) courses or not, the school uses Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (WBST)
  • The WBST may be waived for an applicant who has successfully completed college-level coursework in English or Mathematics and who provides documentation of satisfactory course completion by the Director of Education
  • A transcript which is presented after completion of the WBST will not excuse the applicant from Foundations courses if the WBST results show that the applicants need the Foundations courses to successfully complete their program
  • The school requires all students to complete the Smarter Measures entrance assessment as part of the student preparation process
  • Based on non-cognitive indicators of success, the Smarter Measures assessment measures student readiness to engage in post-secondary learning
  • To determine the type of support that will be most beneficial to the student throughout the program of study, the school uses the results of the assessment
  • An Academics staff member will analyses the results with each student and develop a plan for any support the student may need that can be provided by the school

 Transfer Credits

Students must submit transcripts from all postsecondary schools attended if they wish to transfer credits from another institution. By using the following guidelines, transfer of credit evaluations will be conducted:

  • Before any application for transfer credits can be accepted, an official transcript of the student's coursework must be furnished directly by the institution where the coursework was completed
  • If there is a question on the comparability of program content to the program in which the student will enroll, then the campus may request additional information such as course descriptions or syllabi
  • Before transfer credit is accepted, the student may be required to demonstrate through testing any hands-on competencies for courses where such competencies are required
  • Credits should have been earned in courses offered at institutions which are accredited by an agency recognized by either the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation at the time the credit was earned
  • To be eligible for transfer from a non-Delta owned school, a grade of "C" or higher must be earned in each course completed
  • To be eligible for transfer from a commonly owned Delta school, a grade of "D" or higher must be earned in each course completed
  • Any course accepted must be at least the same number of clock hours as the course for which it is accepted in the case of a clock hour program
  • The student will not be charged any fees for transferring in credits from other institutions from the receiving institution

Maximum Transfer Credits Accepted

  • The total credits not earned in residency (includes credit by transfer and credit by proficiency testing) may not exceed seventy-five percent (75%) of the total credit hours (or clock hours for non-credit hour programs) required for the completion of the program of study
  • For a student transferring from one Delta Career Education Corporation campus to another, the twenty-five percent (25%) residency requirement may be waived
