Muhlenberg is one of those schools that actually deserves its reputation. Allentown location puts you in reach of Philadelphia and New York, but the campus maintains its own intellectual culture—serious academics without the pretension of the Ivies nearby. About 2,200 undergrads, so you're known but not coddled. Classes are genuinely small; chemistry labs are capped, not lectures of 300.
Pre-med here is legitimately competitive. Students get into medical schools at high rates not because of grade inflation but because the curriculum is rigorous and advising is obsessive about your preparation. Theatre is exceptionally strong—the program produces real talent, and facilities are actually good. Business and STEM across the board are solid. This is Fiske-guide territory: liberal arts done right by people who believe in it.
Residential community is strong. People actually stay on weekends. The location helps (you can visit home or go somewhere bigger), but it's also that the campus culture is built for being here. Don't come expecting parties every night; come expecting intellectual engagement and friendships that endure.
