The residents, as well as the non-residents who are planning to pursue their education in one of the accredited educational institutions of the state of Alaska, are offered a number of scholarships on the basis of various factors. The federal government, Alaska State Corporation, private companies, organizations, universities, colleges, and other education-related associations offer scholarships in order to help the students in funding their college costs including tuition and fees, accommodation, books and supplies and other educational and living expenses. Students can be enrolled in institutions like the Alaska Pacific University, the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, Anchorage and Southeast and so on to be an eligible recipient of the scholarships. Scholarships are available on the basis of both academic status as well as the financial status of the students.
For helping and supporting the students to pursue higher education and a successful career, the federal government along with several state and private organizations and associations offer a number of financial aid opportunities through student loans, grants, scholarships, and work-study programs. The student loans and need-based grants are provided based on the financial need demonstrated by the applicants. Hence, the students are required to pay back the money they receive. Whereas, scholarships and merit-based grants need not be paid back after the education of the students. Although work-study programs are offered to those who seek financial help, the students are not obliged to pay back the money as they earn it for their learning.
The eligibility criteria required to acquire scholarships vary among different scholarships and scholarship providers. Yet, the basic criteria are similar. The important eligibility criteria to be a recipient of the state of Alaska scholarships are as enlisted below:
